Perhaps the biggest challenge that is facing medical practitioners all over the world in this century is finding an effective treatment for cancer. Just like most cancer treatments, oral cancer treatment also calls for a multidisciplinary approach to get the best results. This usually includes surgery and radiation therapy or chemo therapy. The choice of treatment for oral cancer depends largely on the stage of the cancer.

Once a patient undergoes a surgery to remove the tumor in the mouth or throat, he or she can opt for radiation or chemo therapy to destroy any cancer cells that are still left in the area. One can go for either internal or external radiation therapy as suggested by the doctor. In chemo therapy, intravenous drugs are used to kill the cancer cell throughout the body. Apart from these forms of oral cancer treatments, a patient can opt for palliative care and symptom management to relieve the pain and side effects of therapy.
